What positions are available with SOU IT?
Help Desk Support Analyst
This position takes calls from faculty, staff, and students who are having technology-related problems, as well as provides support to walk-ins. A Help Desk Technician attempts to solve the problem either over the phone or in-person at the help desk, collects information, and if necessary escalates the issue to our IT staff. To qualify for this position, you should have a good understanding of common productivity software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Mail (Gmail). You should also possess a basic understanding of computer hardware and know your way around Windows 7, Windows 8, and/or Mac OS X. Previous customer service experience is a plus.
Support Team Analyst
Support Team Technicians provide technical computer service for the campus. This includes installing or relocating computers, printers, and network equipment; installing operating system images and desktop software; minor computer and printer repairs; and troubleshooting network connectivity, operating system problems, and issues with software configuration. Computer installation and repair experience is a plus, but you will also receive on-the-job training from our professional staff.
Lab and Classroom Support Analyst
Lab and Classroom Support Technicians provide technical computer services to labs and classrooms. This includes installing or relocating computers, printers, and network equipment; installing operating system images and desktop software; making minor computer and printer repairs; troubleshooting network connectivity, and diagnosing operating system and desktop software configuration problems. To qualify for this position, you should have knowledge of, and experience installing, operating systems and desktop software. A good understanding of enterprise data networks is also a must.
Network Technician
Telecommunication Technicians perform installation, delivery, and repair of telephone equipment, installation and repair of analog and digital telephone and electronic data network wiring, and management of cable record database. On-the-job training is provided in this position. You should be able to use basic tools, be comfortable working in small or confined spaces, and be able to lift 50 pounds.
